Quick Question: Are you trying to grow your business or scale it?

Those are two very different things!

I see so many business and marketing coaches out there talking about growth, but very few talking about scaling. I believe this is why so many business owners get burnt out, capped at an income ceiling, and hustling 24/7. So many people are teaching growth, but very few focus on scaling. If you really want to make a big income with less effort, you need both growth and scaling.

First let’s talk about growth. Growth is about increasing specific end goals and numbers. For example, growing your revenue, growing the size of your company and your team, growing your list. Growth is about outcomes, specific end goals and numbers. Point-blank: growth is about the outcome.

Now scaling is a little bit different. Scaling is about increasing your growth numbers while decreasing output. In other words, it’s about how you can still get those numbers but do it while decreasing the time that you and your team are investing to make it happen. To do that, you need to take a close look at how you are producing those outcomes, what your expenses look like, and what your systems look like, how you produce those outcomes. Scaling is not about the outcomes; it’s about the process.

Growth is about specific outcomes and scaling is about the process of creating those outcomes. In business, while you want to focus on how to create those outcomes and hit those numbers, you also want to think about the process it takes to get there and how you can make it as efficient and enjoyable as possible. You want to focus on both growth and scaling. Then you will have a profitable business but also a happy one.
